Class One – Fundamentals of Plumbing
Foundation course with strong emphasis on hands-on skills and jobsite readiness
Program Goal
This course introduces students to the plumbing trade with a strong emphasis on hands-on skills, jobsite readiness, and real-world problem solving. Students will work with actual plumbing materials, tools, and systems to develop practical competencies required for entry-level plumbing positions.
Daily Schedule
- Day 1 – Trade Orientation & Safety (4 Hours)
Trade overview, apprentice expectations, PPE requirements, WHMIS training, and jobsite conduct. Practical: PPE use, hazard identification, and WHMIS label interpretation. - Day 1 (continued) – Tools & Materials (4 Hours)
Hands-on identification and use of hand and power tools. Pipe materials include ABS, PVC, copper, and PEX. Understanding material applications and code requirements. - Day 2 – Pipe Joining Basics (4 Hours)
Solvent welding techniques for ABS and PVC, threaded joint assembly, PEX connections and fittings, and copper soldering fundamentals. - Day 3 – Drainage Fundamentals Part One (4 Hours)
Purpose of drainage systems, trap installations, proper slopes and grades, cleanout placement, and drainage system components. - Day 5 – Drainage Fundamentals Part Two (4 Hours)
Venting basics and requirements, fixture connections and rough-in dimensions, common drainage mistakes, and code compliance. - Day 6 – Water Distribution Part One (4 Hours)
Hot and cold water systems, shutoff valve installation, pressure basics and requirements, and water distribution layouts. - Day 7 – Water Distribution Part Two (4 Hours)
Pipe support methods and spacing, pipe protection and insulation, pressure testing procedures, and system flushing techniques. - Day 8 – Fixtures Part One (4 Hours)
Toilet installation and types, lavatory mounting and connections, rough-in dimensions and standards, and fixture selection criteria. - Day 9 – Fixtures Part Two (4 Hours)
Tub and shower installation, kitchen sink and faucet installation, laundry fixtures and connections, and fixture trim-out procedures. - Day 10 – Review & Practical Evaluation (4 Hours)
Final review of all course content, safety recap and best practices, hands-on system build evaluation, and practical assessment demonstrating core competencies.

Class Two – Advanced Plumbing Practice
Advanced systems, diagnostics, and code-based decision making
Program Goal
This course builds on Level 1 skills and focuses on advanced plumbing systems, diagnostics, code-based decision making, and jobsite leadership. Graduates are expected to think and act as senior apprentices or junior plumbers, capable of working independently on complex plumbing systems.
Daily Schedule
- Day 1 – Advanced Drainage Systems Part One (4 Hours)
Multi-fixture drainage systems, fixture unit concepts (DFU), and logical pipe sizing. Practical: Designing a multi-fixture drain layout using DFU values and code requirements. - Day 2 – Advanced Drainage Systems Part Two (4 Hours)
Horizontal branch sizing requirements, vertical stack design and sizing, and common code-related issues. Practical: Stack sizing exercises and inspection failure examples. - Day 3 – Wet Venting (4 Hours)
Residential wet venting rules and applications, bathroom group layouts and requirements. Practical: Designing compliant bathroom group wet vent systems. - Day 4 – Advanced Venting (4 Hours)
Vent sizing calculations and requirements, vent offsets and limitations, and island vent concepts. Practical: Island sink vent design and offset vent calculations. - Day 5 – Advanced Water Distribution Part One (4 Hours)
Understanding pressure versus flow relationships, velocity limits and code requirements, and pipe sizing decisions. Practical: Pipe sizing based on pressure and demand scenarios. - Day 6 – Advanced Water Distribution Part Two (4 Hours)
Pressure reducing valve (PRV) applications and installation, thermal expansion principles, and expansion tank setup and sizing. Practical: PRV installation layout and expansion tank sizing calculations. - Day 7 – Service Plumbing and Diagnostics Part One (4 Hours)
Systematic troubleshooting methods, leak diagnosis techniques and tools. Practical: Simulated leak detection and repair decision making exercises. - Day 8 – Service Plumbing and Diagnostics Part Two (4 Hours)
Drain problems and diagnostic procedures, vent-related issues and solutions, and repair strategies. Practical: Diagnosing slow drains, gurgling fixtures, and odor complaints. - Day 9 – Inspections and Leadership (4 Hours)
Rough-in inspection requirements and procedures, final inspection standards, leadership skills, and job coordination. Practical: Inspection walkthrough and correction planning. - Day 10 – Hiring Preparation and Final Evaluation (4 Hours)
Understanding employer expectations, professional conduct and communication, and final system evaluation. Practical: Full system build, inspection readiness demonstration, and interview-style evaluation.
